A few seconds showing the autoclave plus an interview with David Palengat aboard 'Double Century' in 1972 plus a couple of clips showing other race boats.

An excellent film by Castrol in association with the Daily Express.

Several Fairey connections including Peter Twiss, Swordsman Brown plus several Bertram boats and assorted others such as Lord Lucan and Emil Savundra.

Super filming from boats, low-level aircraft and also helicopters.

FOC there seems to be a discrepancy here, this video taken in 1966 shows two Fairey Hunt 18's. One as a safty boat with Peter Twiss and the other racing with someone by the name of T. Heath steering (found the results of the race). However in The-Fairey-Production-Archive it's got the earliest build of a Fairey Hunt as 1967. Maybe some more digging to be done.

My info dates introduction of Hunt 18 as 1965.
There was certainly a used one for sale advertised in January '66.
The records of the Hunt 18 are confused as we have no Hamble production lists to work with as many were built by Island Boatbuilders.
They were also produced by O'Day Boats in both the US & Canada, and at least one was imported, and some have been built here in the past 10 years.

Most of the Hunt 18 info comes from Mac's production notes, hence the dates given from 1967

However, as @CharlesL mentions, the details are sketchy and the Hunt 18 hulls were moulded and completed all over the place.

Any details regarding build dates, hull numbers and engine numbers are welcomed from owners to help us fill in the gaps.

For the moment, I have updated the Production List site with the new date and embedded the 1966 Swanage-Christchurch Pathé news reel.

Cheers,
S

Scott / Charles

Just found another race report archive to the Swanage / Christchurch 1966 race by yachts and yachting. The racing Hunt 18 ( boat 65) finished 17th and was driven by a T Heath and R Taylor. Obviously the other Hunt 18 was driven by the legend Mr Twiss and is well documented.

Hope the link works.

Another one from YouTube...1969 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes...some good close-up shots of Fairey boats...but the film quality is poor being grainy and probably a copy of a copy.

The original must be very good to watch.

Another one from YouTube.

1970 powerboat racing. A home-made cine film. Must have quite good in its day but probably a copy of a copy so hard to watch by modern standards. I hated the music (?) in the first few minutes but then it is mercifully quiet thereafter. No commentary.
