Hello all,

After 15 years of ownership we have decided to offer our Swordsman aft cabin series 2, hull number 32 for sale. She will be known to many as 'Hamble Sword' but is now named 'Liberty'.

I would appreciate any advice on the best route to finding the right owner for the old girl. I have noted over the years that boats are posted here and wonder about other owners experiences when selling. We have cherished her and would hope that someone will take her on and continue to improve her as we have done - it's a long list :)

We are not in a hurry to part with her as we do enjoy our time around Poole and Torquay/The Exe and Salcombe but we won't be using her enough in the future to do her justice. She has just had a survey for insurance and came out with flying colours and she is afloat in the West Country.

Any advice please would be most welcome as I haven't sold a Fairey before! If you have any thoughts please drop me a line here and we can catch up by phone or email

Best regards,
Robert and family

I saw the boat at Cobbs Quay a couple of years ago and she looked stunning. Where in the Westcountry is she lying.
Not an interested purchaser I am afraid, but some pictures and spec on here would help.
My Spearfish will be my last boat I am afraid. Kept at Salcombe.

Hello David, many thanks for your reply.

Liberty is moored on The Exe and will be in Salcombe for a month or so,we will look out for you.

You are right, all the Faireys look stunning that's why we've had her so long and it will be hard to part with her! That said we are pragmatic and it is time to move her on. If she doesn't sell this season - I know it can take time to find the right match - I'm thinking of storing her for the winter at the Lincombe yard which we know well - when we lived in Salcombe we kept our other beauty, a 1964 Riva Ariston, there.

I'll get some details together but in brief built in 1970, series 2 aft cabin, twin heads, 5 berth, twin Perkins Sabre M225Ti s in 1998 (about 1,100 hours) with superb fuel economy and very clean running, plus a list of improvements and maintenance and upgrades that fills pages including a new deck and ply substrate in 2006 done at the same time as White Swordsman had hers fitted by Peter Foulkes - they were next to each other in the yard. All the work with us has been by Martin Mitchell who knows the boat inside out. The previous owner had her for 10 years and had already made a lot of upgrades. We have the Bill Dunlop survey and sales particulars from when we purchased her in 2005 plus various magazine articles about her plus the survey from May this year. Also there is a great deal of her history including her original part 1 registration book and a full service history in our ownership.

She is stored under cover every winter for about 7 months each year and comes complete with her own custom cradle to lift her and a comprehensive shelter to keep her dry, plus an all over cover for when she is afloat. All in all she is fully operational and requires only routine maintenance to keep her in fine fettle.

I know every strength and weakness of the boat and I'd be happy to help a new owner get to grips with her if required in terms of what to keep an eye on and what has been done and when and what may need attention in the future...in the interest of seeing all my hard work and investment pay off long into the future - I want her to last for another 50 years and I am sure she will.

Best regards Robert

We boat from Lincombe and very nice it is too. Two Fairey boats winter in the shed each year, and they are excellent with their timber repair work and paint finishing by brush.
Various Apollyon hull repairs have been excellently done, as were two sets of major work on Sabre.
We like the quietness away from Mad Salcombe, and the easy parking. The sheltered main pontoon and the general ambiance.
Gordon is a good idea as he has many contacts.

Thank you both David and Robin,

Good points which I will follow up on.

Catch up in Salcombe in July and August, we will be on a mooring in the bag.

Let's hope the weather picks up and I hope the event this weekend at Hamble Point goes well.

Best rgds Robert

We had a look at Liberty today from the pontoon. A very nice Swordsman indeed.Well maintained and immaculately detailed. The fore cabin top was particularly well done.
Must be one of the best. A real joy to see.
David.

Hello David,

Thank you for your kind comments, Liberty is indeed a beauty :)

Sorry to have missed you on the water.

We had a super summer in the West County, and covered over 250nm. The boat is now back in Poole and out of the water.

Best regards

Robert

Hello Per,

Good to hear from you.

Liberty will very shortly be put on the market with Nicolle Associates. We didn't try to sell her during the summer, too much fun!

Best regards,
Robert
